PEREZ ZELEDON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S CLUB

Are you new to Costa Rica?  New to Perez Zeledon?  Looking for friends?

Looking for recommendations or advice on your transition in this community?

In 2009 the Perez Zeledon International Women’s Club was formed with a dual mission

  • §   to promote friendship between English speaking women in San Isidro del General and the wider community of Perez Zeledon
  • §   and through friendship, to make a positive service contribution to our local community

The Club continues to grow with currently over 40 full time resident members, and an influx as northern ‘snow bird’ members return to enjoy Costa Rica.

We invite members and guests to participate in various club activities:

  • Monthly luncheons when we enjoy socializing in various barrios in Perez Zeledon ;
  • Monthly  social dates to play games, go ‘plant hunting’ or explore the countryside;
  • Meetings where members can share their knowledge, skills and talents on interesting topics such as First Aid in the Jungle, and enjoy invited guest speakers;
  • Community projects, such as distributing clothes to citizens in need, or gardening at a home for elderly citizens;
  • Seminars that focus on expat concerns such as new immigration laws and the developing insurance market;
  • Creating a shared Directory of recommended local service providers (particularly those who speak English, an essential for new arrivals unable to speak Spanish!).

Community Service

The Club developed a bi-lingual recipe book, “THERE’S A  FROG IN MY SOUP”, as its first fund-raiser to support Hogar Betania, a residence for elderly people.   With both Tico and international recipes, it is a celebration of our wonderful local produce.  Proceeds are being used to buy much needed rehabilitation, mobility and independence equipment for the home.   While raising money is important, the club has formed valuable friendships in the community by giving of our time, skills and effort.

In short, the Club is aiming to develop a range of activities that offer members opportunities for fun and friendship, for mutual support, for sharing skills and knowledge, and for creativity.  Working together, we can find a sense of purpose and gain rewards by giving to each other and to the community.  … For more information, to see our Member Benefits or to join online, visit our web site … www.pziwc.org.
