Farmers Markets

If you are looking for a truly Tico (Costa Rican) culinary experience, you must visit the local Farmer’s Market (feria) where you are staying. The feria is an open-air market that happens once a week in each town. It is one of the best places to get the freshest and most economical produce.

The markets sell anything and everything you could dream of. There are many fruits and vegetables that you never even heard of. If you strike up a conversation with the vendors and ask to try something because it is “mi primera vez,” or your first time, people are generally more than happy to offer you a bite of fruit or vegetable.
